The opening chapter had me hooked, and the slow reveal keeps paying off. Characters feel like real people with real reasons.

The hospital has twelve floors and a lift with thirteen buttons. Night nurse Ruth Abiola has never pressed the last one. Then a patient she lost last winter phones the nurses' station to ask why nobody has come to check on her.
Content notes: death, medical trauma.

Gorgeous prose and an unusual premise. The middle stretch is slower, but the last arc is worth every chapter.
Comfort reading with surprising depth. I look forward to every new release and reread the free chapters often.
